Packaging inspection that checks every pack on the line

Industrial AI Vision inspects caps, seals, labels and cartons on every pack, with a product-specific model for every SKU you run.

Updated October 2026 · 3D simulation, illustrative

Industrial AI Vision, our vision inspection system, brings AI machine vision to packaging inspection on New Zealand FMCG lines. It checks every pack for a straight cap, the correct label, a clean seal and an undamaged carton. Non-conforming packs are removed by your line’s existing reject equipment, and every result is recorded with its image.

Catch packing faults

Missing caps, poor seals and wrong labels stopped before they ship.

Clean changeovers

The first packs of every run are checked against the new product.

A record of every pack

Photo, time and result kept for each pack, ready for audits.

What it checks

Checks from filling to the finished pallet

Label, allergen and date code checks are covered on label and date code inspection, and finished cases on end-of-line inspection.

  1. 01

    Filling and sealing

    • Fill level
    • Seals and lids
    • Caps missing or crooked
  2. 02

    Labelling and coding

    • Right label for the product
    • Label position and condition
    • Date codes and barcodes
  3. 03

    Pack condition

    • Dents, cracks and damage
    • Open flaps and split packs
    • Print and artwork faults
  4. 04

    End of line

    • Case counts and labels
    • Pallet wrap and labels
    • Leaning or damaged loads
Capping and sealing

Caps and seals

The vision system checks what is visible after capping and sealing, set up for each SKU.

  • Caps: present, seated straight and the right colour for the product
  • Tamper bands: present and visible below the cap
  • Seals: product in the seal and folds on clear film, and lid offset on any lidding

Leaks and seal strength need other test equipment.

Changeovers

Changeovers across every SKU

Settings switch with the product, and the first packs of each run are checked against the new one.

  2. 02

    First packs checked

Wrong caps, leftover cartons and wrong case counts are caught at the start of the run.

Integration

Integrated with your packaging line

Industrial AI Vision connects with your line’s control systems, reject equipment and operator displays, and every model is validated on your production footage before go-live. How plant integration works.

  1. 01

    Reject and divert

Non-conforming packs are removed by the reject and divert equipment already on your line.

  2. 02

    Operator displays

Pass and reject counts, reasons and images on your existing screens or a dedicated display.

  3. 03

    Quality data

Yield, reject rates and defect trends by line, shift and SKU, with an image-backed record of every pack.

The same standard on every pack and every shift

Attention fades over a long shift, people judge differently, and spot checks leave no record of the packs nobody looked at. An inspection system applies one standard to every pack and keeps the photo. The real cost of manual inspection.

Works alongside the checks you already have

Barcode scanners, checkweighers and metal detectors or X-ray stay where they are. AI vision adds the visual checks they can’t make, like label position, seal appearance and carton condition, and can run alongside an existing machine vision system. Computer vision vs machine vision.

Product-specific models

Each model is developed in the Vision Lab and trained on your products under your line’s lighting, which keeps false rejects and missed faults to a minimum. For fill level and contamination, see food and beverage inspection; for parts and assemblies, AI quality control for manufacturing. For finished pallets, see pallet and dispatch verification. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is the system trained on our packaging?
Each model is developed in the Industrial AI Vision Lab, our model-training environment, using images of your own packs and real defects captured under your line’s lighting. It is validated against your production footage before it goes into production. How custom models are trained.
Can it handle many SKUs on the same line?
Yes. Each SKU has its own settings for label artwork, code format, cap, seal and case count, chosen at changeover by a line signal or an on-screen confirmation. The first packs of each run are checked against the new settings.
Does it replace our barcode scanners, checkweigher or metal detector?
No. Those do jobs a camera can’t, like weighing a sealed pack or finding metal inside it. AI vision adds the visual checks they miss, such as label position, seal appearance and carton condition.
Will it work with our existing reject system?
Yes. Industrial AI Vision signals your existing reject and divert equipment through your line’s control system, so non-conforming packs are removed by your existing equipment. Integration details are confirmed for each site. How plant integration works.
What about shiny, clear or shrink-wrapped packaging?
Foil, clear film, shrink wrap and glossy cartons all reflect light, so lighting and camera angles are chosen for your packaging. The model is then trained on images of your packs in those conditions.
